Robotics Online Competition

Mecklenburg County Public Schools' students enrolled in Robotics at Bluestone Middle School, Bluestone High School, Park View Middle School, and Park View High School have been busy all year designing robots using the Lego Robotics curriculum as well as online resources. Students have discovered that this class offers them the chance to improve their Science and Technology skills while using their individual creativity when designing robots.

Students will be given the chance to showcase their robots through an online competition that will begin February 1. Students will be judged in two divisions: high school and middle school. Students will be judged on artistic design as well as performance and pictures as well as videos will be placed online so that students, faculty, and community members can vote on their favorite robot. Awards will be given for each division in two categories: design & performance and winners will be selected by online votes.

Students and instructors were given the following guidelines for submitting entries into the competition.

Rules:

1. Students will be eligible to participate in a robot design competition as well as a robot performance competition. Robotics instructors may submit a maximum of 5 entries in the each competition.

2. Entries for the design competition should include a digital picture, student’s grade, name, and school. Digital pictures will be displayed on a competition website and the public will vote on the best lego robot design.

3. Entries for the performance competition should include a short video clip (30 seconds – 1 minute) showing the functionality of the robot, student’s grade, name, and school. Videos will be posted on a competition website and the public will vote on the best lego robot design.

4. All entries must be submitted by the deadline and instructions will be given out concerning the voting process. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.
